Don’t Screw it up

When it comes to screws there is a big difference in what type of screw you use. Screws in the instance of making professional volumes are something you do not want to screw up. The wrong screw can split wood if you are not careful. The wrong type of screw can become easily stripped. The wrong screw can also be a headache when it does not go beneath the surface or simply does not hold.

For a professional job we suggest using professional screws. These along with other materials will make for professional volumes.

When doing the joinery, we suggest using the R4 GRK #8 1 /4” screw . In terms of a screw this one is superior in design. With a 6-point contact insert for screwing the likelihood of it becoming stripped isn’t likely. The T15 head comes along with the screws too (if you buy the right pack). They are self-tapping with a countersinking head making them easy to get underneath the surface. They claim to require no pre-drilling, but we do anyway to avoid any splits or tears in the wood as precaution. Use these along with wood glue.

With the volume screw inserts (If link is not active check out the Escape Climbing website) the GRK #9 and #10 screws are the only ones that will fit these. GRK #9 and #10 have become a climbing industry standard. They have the same features as the R4 GRK #8s previously mentioned. They can come in variety of lengths too. Get the length you need to ensure that your volumes stay on the wall. The #9 and #10 will require the T-25 bit and if you get the pail then the bit should be included. These screws will also fit lone stars which can add variety to where you put your holds when you do not have a place for bolt.

For screws, it is hard to screw it up if you use our recommendations.
